살면서 남의 것이 더 커 보일 때가 있는데요. 그럴 때 한국어로는 남의 떡이 더 커보인다고 하죠. 영어로는 "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"라고 합니다. 직역을 하면 "울타리 넘어 남의 집의 잔디가 더 싱싱해 보인다"는 뜻입니다. 한국과 다르게 영국과 미국(영어를 사용하는 나라)에서는 집 앞에 있는 잔디가 가장 눈에 띄니까 남과 비교하기 좋은 대상이라 그런 것 같아요.
